hearts meme images are all broken

mods, maybe a psa that imgbb isn't a good site to host images on would be useful? clearly it's not equipped to handle the bakerstreet traffic any more. this isn't the first meme that has had broken images.

Are they showing up for you now?

Were only some of them not working? Are they showing up inconsistently? Are there certain times when images break more often?

Does anyone else encounter this issue and would like to chime in?

I don't have any issues with the images on the meme myself, so I wouldn't mind more input about what's behind this. (The image hosting site, browser settings not playing nice, etc)

another anon here chiming in to say that i've frequently seen imgbb broken html or overtraffic markers where either whole meme images have been hosted on the site and overtaxed, and the heart meme has shown up broken for me half of the time this particular round. it's starting to look like a psa wouldn't be entirely out of order for that site, since i see it happening more often.

sa

adding to say it's definitely an imgbb issue. it doesn't happen with any other hosting site (imgur/hosted on dw) and it's happening more often, so it depends on how often people refresh/open in new pages at what time. amount of traffic matters on that site and it's getting overburdened.

sa yet again

but this is what i saw just scrolling down now at almost 8am my time. it's been either like this or half and half (half the hearts showing up).

and this is what happens on a larger scale with the few that still use imgbb to host regular meme images or gifs on.

Ty! Good to know how it looks.

I might be online at lower traffic times so haven't been hitting the same issues. Though it looks like there are a number of different reasons for different people.

As above, I'll let meme posters know, as well as round up some of the alternatives people have suggested.

Thank you! I'll put something up so that meme posters are aware.

Second test - these are all HTML coded and not image links:
Do any of them display oddly?

(dark pink - set with hexadecimal code)

This looks good to me on both desktop and an iOS device! Which is surprising, actually - my phone usually turns hearts, including unicodes, into default-color emojis.

No-color heart is black on white background in default theme, white on black background in dark mode.

So it's a partial solution. I'm getting the default red emoji hearts in my emails (gmail) though it's fine on the both android firefox and desktop for me too.

I believe this might be tied to region. I had friends in my geographical area say it was broken for them, but friends in Europe were seeing it just fine.

My recommendation is to switch to host sites like catbox.moe or Buzzheavier for those who don't want to make accounts. For account sites, Piczel and Imgur have never broken my images.

You don't even need an account for imgur. You can just upload and c/p the link.

Oh, I had no idea. Haven’t used them in years. Thanks for letting me know.

No worries. I found it by accident when I realized I had uploaded an image for something and had forgotten to log in and was still able to access the image.

i'm in europe and it's broken for me

just upload to dreamwidth's image hosting. no need to use a different site at all.

I'll add those as part of possible alternate sites for people to check out.

Thanks!

It's technically against Imgur TOS to link off-site. They haven't started enforcing it yet but this has been true for a couple of years, and they've been making warnings lately that if people are caught doing this, they'll be banned.
