There have been times when picture prompt memes go up in quick succession, a recent case being the reverse smut prompt meme and the another of the picture prompt together. That's because the reverse meme has been given a go ahead of a once a month posting regardless of what's on the comm, from what I know.
And in this case - while the texting picture prompt meme was seen and flagged earlier - I think that the texting version of the meme hasn't been up in a while, as well as having a number of comments and play already. (I'm not sure when it was tagged as an early meme, since it was already there when I first saw it, if anyone wants to add anything.)
In future, a possible solution may be to ask for a specific from of the meme to go up rather, than putting things up early.
That said, I personally, would not be adverse to taking down early posted memes if they're caught fast enough.

(Anonymous) 2019-07-26 07:02 am (UTC)(link)The texting prompt meme has a short and recent history, so saying it and the general prompt meme have been taken as similar memes in the past isn't realky working off much precedent. It's also not addressing a rationale behind what makes it similar to the prose picture prompt meme. It just says "we did it like this once or twice, so we are doing it like that forever." Respectfully, that doesn't hold much logical water.
Similarly, I guess on your side the rationale behind your decision to remove one meme and not the other makes sense because you have a feeling of what qualifies as enough of an exception to do A over B — what I'm trying to flag is, we increasingly don't. If there is a set of minor background rules you are working off of (ex: the number of non-top level comments in play matters when deciding whether to delete a meme) that would be great for us to also know.
That said, in the case of this particular meme and its sister texting memes, you might be creating a loophole to post early: by the very nature of them, people rush into them and tag within the blink of an eye. If a texting meme is posted early and you don't catch it within the hour, you are much likelier to have threads in play after that than in prose memes.

(Anonymous) 2019-07-26 03:05 pm (UTC)(link)texting memes are popular, but at this point, we have 3 a week that are scheduled, so letting someone loophole in to a picture prompt as well feels like it's abusing the system. the rules keep shifting to make no sense and this is why people are going to keep breaking them.
