guys, please please please make new rules about repost timing unless it's "popular" or similar in any sense memes. it's flooding and getting ridiculous, especially with niche memes like the robot shipping one EVERY WEEK. it should be monthly, at best.

any time a tumblr person comes along they go "oh it's all shipping/same stuff" the same with anyone else new to dwrp AND people already in it. please just curate things a little more already. hell, if you want someone to approve posts i'll do it. i'll give you paid accounts, whatever

what do you guys need to do this and limit posting, especially of extra niche or samey memes?

(Anonymous) 2019-02-08 08:40 pm (UTC)(link)
backing this up, i'll happily pitch in or whatever's needed, there needs to be some level of curation beyond "not too many texting memes".

Not speaking for the other mods:

Are you suggesting something like moderated posting? or perhaps just a longer cooldown (say 2 weeks) between posting?

Going to preface this with yes, I'm aware that it was tried before a long time ago and that it didn't work out too well at the time (for meme timing reasons iirc?) - but given how things have changed, it may be worth it to try again, if enough people are available to help out. (ie when some people are busy with work/school/life)

Also would something like this help any, if only to generate ideas?

I actually really like the idea of a brainstorming meme.

Not speaking for the original anons, but moderated posting would be a good first step in my opinion. This way, you guys don't have to constantly delete repeats. Having some kind of queue would be a huge help. You could also regulate the amount of shipping vs gen, texting vs prose, and when the tfln was posted with so much less confusion. Seconding that I'll do what needs to be done to help with this.

And a idea generation and discussion meme would be a great idea. Maybe once a month?

For one specific reason I personally don't like the idea of moderated posting. I think there is value in itself to have one place that is open to all players (except trolls or toxic people) and all ideas, and with minimum of moderation. Every other place is with stricter rules of play.

As far as I know Bakerstreet is the "central hub" of things. We allow other comms to advertise, we've allowed links to even competing sites (other meme comms with moderation) etc. Yes, it has its price, but no system is without faults. Moderation queues will bring new faults and complaints, even it they remove some old ones.

I would much rather make a rule stating that one particular meme can be posted only twice a month, or even as seldom as once a month (except for the most popular ones that now are scheduled) than to have memes in queues.

I totally agree that people post the same memes too often. No argument there.

We can certainly have a discussion meme.

And I'd genuinely agree, except that people don't follow those rules, and then you either have to delete the meme or allow it to stay up because too many people have tagged, and weakening the rule. This is the situation right now, combined with the fact that it's very hard to keep up with when what memes are allowed to be posted where unless you have it memorized or want to sift through three or more linked posts and count off when the last meme was posted, etc.

The discussion meme is now up, so I suggest we'll continue there.

Popping in really quickly to add:

If we want to have an anon-enabled type post in future, we can host it on the mod comm and link from the main.

Also, I can link the 'current' discussion post to each weeks round up

Good idea, thanks.
