Can we please have people stop using that template for the expanded heart meter meme and use the one that uses images for the hearts instead? Mobile taggers (including those of us on tablets or certain types of laptop replacements) just see red emoji hearts, making it impossible to parse. Someone made an accessible version of the meme as a template, but people keep using the old one.

We can ask, but there's no guarantee that the next time this meme is posted, whoever does so will use that modified template. (I am not on devices that would show me the difference, so I cannot tell.)

I do have a question: Is it just for the prompt sections, or also in the tags (copying and pasting the hearts directly rather than the associated HTML will not transfer the color, from what I've tried.)

But also see if these work on phone and alternate devices as direct c/ps from alternate devices? (Not images or emoji codes but html coding)

Thanks for the response! It's the entire meme, whether in the post itself or in the comments. Every single heart in your comment is displayed as the exact same graphical emoji (red hearts). Mobile OSes display certain Unicode characters as full color emoji and there is no method to disable this or change the formatting of the emoji aside from size or alignment. This happens when using the HTML code or the actual character itself.

I see. Looks like it overrides everything into whatever format is inbuilt into the OS.

I'll look for the alternate meme post (or if you want to link to it?) and maybe I could set up a stickied post on comm for meme template/format references due to accessibility/code breakage/etc so they're easier to find

Could we maybe tone it a bit down with the texting memes? I don't want to spoil anybodies fun, but alone this week, we had:

sunday august 21st, 2022- Midnight Texting
friday august 19th, 2022 - texts from last night
tuesday august 16th, 2022 - sexting meme
sunday august 14, 2022 - general texting meme
+ overflows

I know that those memes are popular, but at the rate they're going they're just turning into huge muse dumping grounds.

(Anonymous) 2022-08-24 03:16 am (UTC)(link)
please read the actual sticked posts at the top of the community. those are weekly scheduled memes because they're popular. they have a posting schedule. friday is always tfln. sunday is a gen texting meme. tuesday is sexting. do you read the rules of the comm you're on?

(Anonymous) 2022-08-24 01:20 pm (UTC)(link)
Chill, anon.

I don't want to abolish your precious texting memes trice a week, I just fail to see any difference between "midnight texting" and either "general texts" or "tfln". It's exactly same thing with a slightly different name. Are we going to do "texts from during work", "I just came out of work texting" and "texts from my grandma's boring bday party" next, too?

Let's just focus on the already scheduled texting memes and give people actually time to play on them, rather than racing who can post the next version of exactly the same thing instead.

(Anonymous) 2022-08-24 06:38 pm (UTC)(link)
again, read the actual comm, ffs. midnight texting happens every third sunday in place of gen texting, because it is a gen texting meme. tfln is not a gen meme and lends more to crack/drunk/sex stuff. sexting is cleary sexting.

you're coming into a party with an established system in place and being mad you don't like the system. and before you flick your angry bean about the love letters shipping texts meme, that comes up once every two weeks as well. people just like texting memes. sun, tues, fri is the schedule. skip a day or a week like most people and find your joy in it later. idk what to tell you. this works for us and has for awhile. you clearly don't actually understand said schedule if you haven't read what's up, what's allowed, and why gen/midnight is the same meme/alternating schedules. it's not hard. there's stickied posts, anon. you're literally getting upset about the thing that's already happening (let's focus on the already scheduled texting memes). you're complaining about... the already scheduled texting memes.

this meme's image is flagged as a trojan/virus risk on my browser

(Anonymous) 2022-09-02 12:02 am (UTC)(link)
The image url shows that the source is a site called phoneky.co.uk/ which seems to be an aggregate site for images, sounds, etc.

I am not sure what may be triggering that flag risk, but ublock origin and duckduckgo are picking up web trackers (mostly google based). Running a virus scan has picked up nothing.

if the site is listed as a trojan risk or has history of hosting viruses some security software will block it until it's whitelisted

in this case malwarebytes is flagging it, either way the meme poster might need to be warned that they're linking to a site that's unsafe (and future posters of that meme should find a better source for their images)

Just as a heads up. I don't post a lot of memes, but I went and checked the TFLN schedule and last week's was posted after 8pm EST, so I thought it would be okay to post it earlier today. If not, I apologize, but as it hadn't gone up already and I'd checked time and remember it's on an alternating schedule, I thought it was okay.

Did contact the poster to let them know the hosting site has triggered virus programs.

tfln is meant to be on an alternating AM/PM schedule but last week's was around 9am and this week's went up at 12:05am which is extremely early

+1

Came here to voice this concern as well.

It's getting far far too early being posted.

With all the confusion over what constitutes as early or late for posting tfln, I wanted to suggest specifying a timezone (maybe UTC in sense of fairness? but could be a more heavily populated by the community one, like EST or PST) to measure "early" or "late" by. If nobody is on the same page re: time, this kind of thing is going to keep happening every friday.

(Anonymous) 2022-09-09 06:50 pm (UTC)(link)
here to agree with this sentiment as well. it feels like the alternating early/late posting for TFLN hasn't been enforced for a while - which fine, whatever, the mods will mod how they see fit - but posting it when it's not even Friday in all time zones is more ridiculous than when it gets tossed up by 8am EST.

(Anonymous) 2022-09-09 09:38 pm (UTC)(link)
the time has already been established. the comm itself runs on est. i'm too hot and tired to go snoop for what mod post it was put in, but that's why the timezone check clock is on every meme roundup post. it's supposed to alternate every week am/pm via est. early est one week, late est the next. last week's was early, the week before was late. this week jumped the gun big time and i think it's because it's a new poster. most of the posters seem to know what they're doing, but new posters can throw the whole thing off whack.

it's not in the rules, but it has been discussed repeatedly on all of these discussion posts. it could help to have it added in the meme roundup or on the sticky post of what memes are weekly. but the comm already has a posting time and that time is est.

poster of last week's and i've never posted tfln before but i checked beforehand to see if it was an early/late posting the week prior. as it was 8pm, i thought that an earlier posting would be acceptable (read my comment above).

i've seen a lot of new posters (i'm an old meme poster but new to posting tfln) of memes lately that don't seem to know the rules of the comm in regards to which memes are weekly/scheduled. the other report post also has people not sure of the rules. a new mod discussion post about what rules are established already and where to find them might help, because it kind of feels like someone threw a bunch of new folk in and forgot to show them the comm rules.

Sorry, just got back from work. I will get in touch with the poster in question to make it known.

Yes, the TFLN meme is supposed to be posted on Friday, preferably alternating from an early and later timeslot, to try and let more people in different timezones get an early shot at the meme.

re: posting time - I will get in touch with the poster in question to make it known.

(Unfortunately, if the A.M. slot gets missed, then it can only really be posted late and I am not currently in a position where I could hop on DW and post it if I happen to notice)

I can, as an option, link to the rules/schedule/problems info posts on the weekly round up so that it's sort comes up weekly, for the people who don't visit the main page (and the static posts), and see bakerstreet through their feeds. I just worry sometimes that there's too much going on in the preface blurb and have since edited it down from pervious versions.

It's possible that maybe a once every six months/once a year there can be a mod 'reminder of what's going on here' post, just for clarity. I know you guys didn't sign up to do a lot of babysitting, put a casual 'state of the comm' every year or so might help people catch up on what's established so there's not a lot of finger pointing and I hope it would lessen the amount of comments coming here about things.

(Anonymous) 2022-09-30 05:10 am (UTC)(link)
seriously, it's still happening
9/9: 12:05 am
9/16: 10:36am
9/23: 11:55am
today: exactly at midnight, ON the dot
